Biologists and geologists occasionally take samples of organisms or rocks from a cave with permission of the owner. We keep the samples to the absolute minimum and take already broken cave formations if at all possible. These samples are examined in the laboratory, identified, and characterized. If they're from a national park, we return them to be kept for other researchers.
